I've been using Daler Rowney's System 3 acrylics since I was first introduced to acrylics in school art classes when I was 14. I have a few tubes from W&N Galleria and a few other student grade types, nothing artist or professional grade just yet. I mentioned over on Pete's most recent video that the largest work I had done was a mural and that I'd post a few photos to show him, and that was painted entirely with System 3 acrylic paints. For anyone that is familiar with the Mass Effect Trilogy of video games, this is what the space craft details are based on, whereas the body of the mural itself I used photos of space taken by NASA. For folks that have used other brands, what would you recommend as the step up from System 3 and Galeria student grade paints? The mural itself. It is 8ft from floor to ceiling and I can't remember how wide. There is a can of orange tango on the stack of boxes on the right if you want an idea of scale. Hello Pete, hello fellow forum folk. I'm Zaquiel and a long-time lurker in the YT comments on Pete's videos. I sometimes even comment on them. I'm also known by the screen name Umbra_Arcana on IG and BSky. A little bit about me, I studied fine art at A-Levels but was not allowed to continue it into university. I spent a chunk of my life in the merchant navy and when it spat me out...well art has been keeping me sane ever since. I primarily work with encaustic wax, it's my favourite medium to work with, closely followed by acrylics. (Though I don't tend to publicly post much of my encaustic work anymore because of GenAI scraping. My work got scraped.) I will dabble and experiment with anything at least once and if I don't like the medium/material, it gets passed on to an arty friend. If I like it, it gets added to my hoard of art supplies and experimented with when the inspiration strikes. It's nice to meet you all and I look forward to chatting with all you arty folks.
