Hi there! I am your typical, over 50, coming to art late in life. I've always liked making things, but mostly textiles. I have also been a children's book enthusiast, even before I had kids. I have hovered around art & artists my whole life & am now enjoying learning to use different supplies & surfaces.
I like the physicality of creating art. I don't really enjoy creating realistic anything. I guess I am led by colors & shapes. I enjoy watercolor because it's tidy, it can by cleaned up without worrying about the environment (I don't use cobalts/cadmiums/nickels,) and a little goes a long way. I also love fine liners, water-soluble crayons, posca pens, & colored pencils. I may invest in some environmentally-safe "akrylic" paint in the future.
Art is a hobby for me, but one that is very important for my mental health. The pandemic, the illness/death of a loved one, wildfire/weather-related scares and political turmoil has really broke my brain these past few years. I am prone to anxiety, so art (and a ton of crocheting & jigsaw puzzles) has been very therapeutic. I look forward to taking actual, in person classes when I feel safer being out & about. For now, I am your friendly shut-in😂
